The Dairy in Central Park

The Dairy is located near the southern end of Central Park. It was designed by Calvert Vaux and built in 1871.

Although originally serving as a refreshment spot with dairy cows producing milk for children who were visiting the park, the building was used as a storage facility for many years and fell into steep decline in the latter part of the 20th century.

In 2022 Fifty Three Restorations was hired to execute the restoration of the architectural woodwork. Much of the exterior woodwork was decayed, broken or missing. Many of the features of the building had been altered. The new millwork was designed by the Central Park Conservancy architects to replicate the original profiles.

Today the building stands true to its original form.
